Hon. Peter Isoaimo, MP
Minister for Energy
The National Energy Authority (NEA) proudly announces the appointment of Hon. Peter Namea Isoaimo, MP, as Papua New Guinea’s new Minister for Energy. The Member for Kairuku was officially sworn in at Government House this afternoon, following a minor Cabinet reshuffle.
Minister Isoaimo, a senior member of the National Alliance Party, brings with him over a decade of leadership and governance experience in Parliament. First elected in 2014, he has served with distinction in several key roles, including Vice Minister for Works and Highways and Vice Minister for Treasury, and has contributed extensively to parliamentary committees on economic affairs, public works, law and order, and environmental management. His career reflects a long-standing commitment to public service and a dedication to improving the lives of Papua New Guineans through sound leadership and policy.
As Minister for Energy, Hon. Peter Isoaimo assumes leadership of the sector at a pivotal time, when energy development is central to economic growth and national sustainability. He will oversee major initiatives in LNG, renewable energy, and rural electrification, working in close partnership with the NEA to deliver the Government’s vision of reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for all. The NEA looks forward to working under his leadership to advance transformative projects that will drive inclusive development, empower communities, and secure Papua New Guinea’s long-term energy future.
The NEA also extends its sincere appreciation to the former Minister for Energy, Hon. Thomas Opa, MP, who has taken on a new ministerial role as Minister for Finance. We acknowledge his valuable contributions during his tenure, from serving as Vice Minister for Petroleum and Energy to leading as Minister for Energy. His leadership was instrumental in advancing NEA’s mission, and we look forward to his continued support for Papua New Guinea’s energy agenda as a senior member of the Marape-Rosso Government.
